Frequently Asked Questions about the Embassy of Nature
What is the Embassy of Nature?
The Embassy of Nature documents the natural world through fine art nature photography and films, making these authentic impressions of nature accessible in interior spaces. Its own continuously growing archive is available to businesses and institutions through Editions. This allows authentically documented nature to be integrated over the long term into spaces where people live, work, heal and learn.
What belief underpins the Embassy of Nature?
The Embassy of Nature was founded on the belief that meaningful encounters with nature are not a luxury, but a fundamental part of human experience. Where direct contact with nature is limited or impossible, its presence should remain accessible.
How does the Embassy of Nature understand the relationship between humans and nature?
Human beings do not stand apart from nature. We emerged from it and belong to it. The relationship between humans and nature is therefore not an optional choice, but a fundamental condition of human existence. It exists whether or not we are consciously aware of it.
Why is the presence of nature important in interior spaces?
Many people today spend a large part of their daily lives indoors. Direct access to nature is often limited, particularly in places that protect, heal, educate, accommodate or bring people together. The Embassy of Nature seeks to preserve the possibility of a connection with nature wherever direct encounters are limited or cannot take place.
Is authentically documented nature intended to replace real nature?
No. The Embassy of Nature explicitly does not regard photographic and film documentation of nature as a substitute for direct experiences of nature. These works are intended to extend the presence of nature and preserve the possibility of a connection wherever direct encounters with nature are limited or impossible.
What is the mission of the Embassy of Nature?
The mission is to create the closest possible visual approximation to an encounter with authentically documented nature. To this end, the Embassy of Nature continuously documents the natural world according to high standards of authenticity, technical mastery and aesthetic integrity. The aim is to preserve its diversity, complexity and beauty and make them accessible to present and future generations.
How is this mission put into practice?
These authentic impressions of nature are made accessible through Editions and licensing, as well as through exhibitions, publications, partnerships and other forms of professional and cultural collaboration. This allows them to be meaningfully integrated into the environments where people live, work, heal and learn.
Authenticity and Charter
What does “authentically documented nature” mean?
Every photograph and nature film documents a real moment in nature as it existed in a particular place at a particular time. The works do not invent nature. They bear witness to it.
Are the depictions of nature AI-generated?
No. The archive contains no AI-generated landscapes or simulated depictions of nature. All fine art nature photography and films are created at real locations and produced by the Embassy of Nature itself.
Does the Embassy of Nature use stock photography or external image archives?
No. All fine art nature photography and films come from the Embassy of Nature’s own archive. Neither content from stock platforms nor photographs or films from external image archives are used.
Are landscapes altered in post-production?
The documented nature itself is neither artificially supplemented nor altered in its characteristic appearance. The Embassy of Nature documents nature, not the incidental traces of human activity that temporarily interrupt our perception of it. Distracting human interventions such as electricity pylons, roads or other human influences may therefore be removed in post-production. The aim is to preserve the authentic presence of nature — not the distractions that obscure it.
What does the Embassy of Nature mean by an “authentic moment”?
An authentic moment is a real observation of nature documented through photography or film at a specific place and time. Light, weather, landscape and atmosphere are based on an actual encounter with the natural world, not on a scene invented afterwards.
What quality principles apply to the documentation of nature?
The Charter sets out three fundamental standards: authenticity; technical mastery; aesthetic integrity. These principles guide the capture, selection, processing and presentation of the fine art nature photography and films.
How authentic are the soundtracks of the nature films?
Wherever possible, the soundtracks are based on professional original recordings made at the documented location. If air traffic, road noise, strong wind or other environmental factors prevent a suitable original recording, the natural soundscape is reconstructed exclusively using sounds of nature.
Why do the nature films avoid camera movement?
The static perspective resembles a calm view through a window. The films deliberately avoid camera movement and dramatic staging. This allows a calm and lasting presence of nature to emerge in the room, without demanding attention through a cinematic narrative.
Effects and Scientific Basis
What does “evidence-based interior design” mean?
The integration of visual nature is informed by findings from environmental psychology, health research and attention research. Scientific evidence thus provides a basis for the responsible selection and use of depictions of nature. It complements architectural and design planning, but does not replace it.
What does the Embassy of Nature mean by “visual nature exposure”?
Visual nature exposure refers to the perception of nature through photographic or film representations. It is distinct from direct experiences of nature and from virtual or simulated environments. These different forms of experiencing nature must be considered separately when interpreting scientific evidence.
What does research show about visual nature?
A growing body of research shows that even photographic and film representations of nature can contribute positively to stress reduction, recovery, attention and well-being. Studies have examined changes in heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension and heart rate variability, among other measures, as well as potential effects on emotions, attention and cognitive performance.
Have the effects of the Embassy of Nature’s photography and films been scientifically tested?
No. The studies cited examine various forms of visual and real-world nature exposure. Their findings cannot be directly applied to individual photographs or nature films by the Embassy of Nature. They provide a scientific basis for the work, but do not constitute evidence of the effectiveness of the specific fine art nature photography and films offered.
Does the Embassy of Nature promise medical or therapeutic effects?
No. The fine art nature photography and films are elements of interior design, not medical products or therapeutic interventions. They do not replace medical treatment, psychological care or therapy. No healing or treatment outcomes are promised.
In which areas have the effects of visual nature been studied most extensively?
The scientific evidence is particularly extensive in healthcare and in the areas of attention and cognitive performance. Design incorporating visual nature can therefore draw directly on scientific findings, particularly in hospitals, medical practices, care facilities, offices and New Work environments.
What role does research play in hotels and senior living environments?
In hospitality and senior living, the main focus is on atmosphere, identity, a sense of security and the experience of space. Scientific findings can complement design planning. However, they do not replace an individual assessment of the location or architectural and curatorial decisions.
Does the visual presence of nature replace spending time in nature?
No. Direct encounters with the natural world remain a distinct and irreplaceable experience. Fine art nature photography and films do, however, preserve the possibility of a visual connection wherever direct access to nature is limited or impossible.
Applications and Visual Worlds
Which spaces are the fine art nature photography and films intended for?
Typical applications include: clinics and hospitals; medical and therapy practices; care and senior living facilities; offices and New Work environments; hotels, restaurants and spas; reception areas and lounges; educational and community spaces; other interiors used professionally or by the public; and, of course, all kinds of private spaces.
Does the Embassy of Nature develop complete interior design concepts?
No. The Embassy of Nature does not replace interior design services or develop complete, complex interior design concepts. It supports planning practices, interior designers and project managers with a curated archive of authentic fine art nature photography and films, along with the necessary licensing and production information.
Archive and Selection
What does the Embassy of Nature archive contain?
The archive consists exclusively of fine art nature photography and films produced in-house. International productions continually expand it with new landscapes and experiences of nature.
Is the archive a fixed collection of imagery?
No. The archive grows continuously. New productions keep opening up additional geographical, atmospheric and creative perspectives. During the database access period, new content can be used within the scope of the chosen Edition.
How can the archive be searched?
The archive platform allows fine art nature photography and films to be searched by landscape themes and colour palettes. Digital lightboxes make it possible to assign selected works to projects and individual rooms and to compare different visual worlds.
Can the imagery be visualised in the intended space before production?
Yes. On request, preview visualisations can be created to assess imagery, formats and placement within the intended spaces. Preview visualisations and further curatorial or planning services are project-specific additional services and are not automatically included in an Edition.
Editions
What is an Edition?
An Edition provides access to a defined portion of the continuously growing archive of fine art nature photography and films. It includes print-ready production files, high-resolution nature films and clearly defined usage rights for the agreed location.
Why is access provided through Editions rather than the purchase of individual images?
The Edition model is designed for the long-term, consistent integration of authentically documented nature into interior spaces. Businesses and institutions therefore acquire more than a single, isolated image. They receive access to a defined selection within a curated and continuously growing archive.
Which Editions are available?
The Embassy of Nature offers three professional Editions: Professional Small for selected interior spaces; Professional Medium for properties with multiple areas; Professional Large for extensive and demanding projects. The Editions differ not in the quality of the fine art nature photography and films, but in the scope of archive access and the duration of database access. (In addition to our professional Editions, we offer a Private Edition. It enables private individuals to integrate authentically documented nature into their own interiors and live with the presence of nature. The Private Edition is intended exclusively for personal use in private spaces that are not accessible to the public. It does not include usage rights for commercial or publicly accessible areas, nor does it include exhibition or broadcasting rights. It does not offer film downloads, but only streaming and the download and production of one fine art nature photograph.)
What does Professional Small include?
Professional Small includes: access to six fine art nature photographs; access to six nature films; one year of database access; print-ready production files and high-resolution nature films; perpetual usage rights for the licensed location; free choice of print production provider; transferability in the event of relocation.
What does Professional Medium include?
Professional Medium includes: access to 30 fine art nature photographs; unlimited access to all nature films; two years of database access; print-ready production files and high-resolution nature films; perpetual usage rights for the licensed location; free choice of print production provider; transferability in the event of relocation.
What does Professional Large include?
Professional Large includes: access to the entire archive of fine art nature photography; unlimited access to all nature films; three years of database access; print-ready production files and high-resolution nature films; perpetual usage rights for the licensed location; free choice of print production provider; transferability in the event of relocation.
Can an Edition be upgraded later?
Yes. When upgrading to a larger Edition, the licence fee already paid is credited in full. This allows the scope of archive access to be expanded without losing the investment already made.
What happens when database access expires?
When the database access period expires, only access to the archive platform ends. The usage rights already granted for the licensed location remain valid indefinitely. Database access can be renewed or expanded by upgrading to a larger Edition.
Licensing and Usage Rights
What geographical scope does the Edition licence cover?
The licence applies to the agreed location or the building defined in the contract. Additional Edition licences are required for additional locations or buildings.
Are the usage rights limited in time?
No. The usage rights for the fine art nature photography and films selected as part of the Edition remain valid indefinitely for the licensed location. The duration of database access does not affect these previously granted usage rights.
Can the licence be transferred if we relocate?
Yes. If you relocate at a later date, the licence can be transferred to the new business location. The transfer should be agreed with the Embassy of Nature in advance and documented.
Can multiple copies of the fine art nature photography and films be produced?
The selected fine art nature photography and films may be reproduced for professional implementation within the licensed location, and additional copies may be produced as needed. This does not include use at other locations.
Who owns the photographs and nature films?
Copyright and ownership of the fine art nature photography and films remain with the Embassy of Nature. The Edition does not transfer ownership of the works, but grants the usage rights defined in the contract.
May the designed spaces be photographed and published?
Yes. The designed interiors may be documented and published as part of your own corporate communications. This applies, for example, to: your own website; brochures; annual reports; corporate films; press coverage; television and media productions taking place in the spaces.
May individual fine art nature photographs or films be used separately for advertising?
No. The licence permits the works to be shown in the spatial context of the designed interiors. The separate publication, distribution or advertising use of individual fine art nature photographs or films outside this spatial context is not included in the Edition licence.
Production and Implementation
What do we receive for production?
You receive print-ready, high-resolution production files for very large-format fine art prints, along with high-resolution nature films in 4K. These allow the selected fine art nature photography and films to be professionally produced and implemented for the licensed location.
Can we choose our own print production provider?
Yes. You decide which print production provider or technical service provider to work with. The Edition does not tie you to a particular manufacturer or production partner.
Can the Embassy of Nature recommend production partners?
Yes. On request, the Embassy of Nature can connect you with specialist partners for print production, custom formats, technical integration, exhibition setup and installation.
Which production formats are available?
Depending on the space, imagery and design concept, options include: backlit large-format displays; textile systems; direct-to-wall printing; aluminium Dibond panels; acrylic glass; traditional framing; digital presentation systems; integration of nature films into a media server; bespoke productions.
Are the photographs suitable for very large formats?
Yes. All our photographs are taken with Phase One cameras (high-end digital medium-format systems) and offer exceptionally high levels of detail and resolution. As a result, the fine art nature photographs remain natural, calm and convincing down to the finest details, even in large formats and at close viewing distances.
Can the nature films be integrated into existing media servers?
Yes. Under the agreed licence, the high-resolution nature films can be integrated into suitable media servers and presentation systems at the licensed location. Technical compatibility should be checked in advance.
What happens if a produced print is damaged?
Since you receive the print-ready production files, the item can be reproduced by a print production provider. The perpetual usage rights for the licensed location remain unaffected.
Consultation and Project Process
How does a project with the Embassy of Nature work?
The typical process consists of four steps: 1. Selecting the Edition that suits the property and project scope; 2. Curating suitable visual worlds from the archive; 3. Production and implementation with freely chosen or recommended partners; 4. Developing the presence of nature in the building over the long term.
What information is needed for an initial consultation?
Particularly helpful details include: the type and use of the building; the number and function of the spaces to be designed; the size and location of the property; the groups of users, residents, patients or guests; the desired atmosphere; any existing architectural or design concept; the planned implementation timeframe. Photographs, floor plans or visualisations can further assist the assessment.
Does the initial consultation involve any commitment?
No. Based on the information you provide, the Embassy of Nature recommends a suitable Edition without obligation.
How can I request a consultation?
You can use the contact form to describe your property and the areas to be designed. You will usually receive a reply within two working days. Request a consultation
Photographic and Film Quality
What image quality do the Embassy of Nature’s photographs offer?
All photographs by the Embassy of Nature are created using high-end digital medium-format systems from Phase One. The exceptionally high resolution and imaging precision of these cameras enable a detailed, true-to-life depiction of the documented landscapes and natural environments. This quality is particularly evident in large-format installations: the finest textures, subtle natural colour variations and even distant elements remain visible. The result is a visual natural environment that can be not only viewed, but continually rediscovered.
How is the exceptional depth of field in many photographs achieved?
For many images, the Embassy of Nature uses a special photographic capture technique that creates an exceptionally extensive, continuous depth of field. From a nearby stone or a plant in the foreground to the distant horizon, the different layers of the landscape are rendered with the highest levels of sharpness and detail. Particularly in large formats, this precision enables an immersive visual experience: the eye can wander freely through the landscape, continually discovering new textures and details of authentically documented nature.
What quality are the nature films produced in?
The Embassy of Nature’s nature films are recorded in 12K or 6K RAW. The RAW format preserves a particularly large amount of the image information captured during recording, providing the basis for precise and nuanced post-production. The high source resolution allows for high-quality colour grading and exceptionally detailed, finely balanced 4K output. As a result, the nature films retain their visual depth and authenticity even on large-format, high-quality displays.
